תקציר:
Advances in sensor technologies, alongside the pervasiveness of mobile devices and other digital services, are changing the way we live, but also how we do research. The emerging field of Computational Social Science has potential to increase our understanding of individuals, groups, and whole societies, with unprecedented breadth, depth, and scale.
However, in order to realize the potential, there is need for new methodologies that take the research work out of the lab and into the real world. In addition, there is a need for new tools that reduce the barrier of entry and broaden the number of people and organizations who can tap into this space.
In this talk I will present some of the work of my colleagues and I in this area. We will discuss the use of mobile phones as social and behavioral sensors, and how they were used to conduct one of the largest mobile data experiments in academia to date. Additionally we will touch on several tools and platforms developed for researchers, software developers, and end users.
Bio:
Dr. Nadav Aharony is a product manager at Google, where he currently works on a decentralized mobile computing effort. Before that he was a product manager on the Android Location and Context team. Prior to Google, he was the founder and CEO of Behavio, a mobile sensing and behavior understanding company, which was acquired by Google in 2013.

Nadav has over 13 years of experience in engineering, product management, and business development. He holds an MS and PhD from the MIT Media Lab, and a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technion. His work has been featured in academic and popular press, in notable publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Wired, Businessweek, and Technology Review.
