Title: Don Quixote or the Prophetess Deborah - the tools and strategies of the environmental movement in Israel (and the Heschel Center in particular) in the mitigation and adaptation of Climate Change.

Summary: The Heschel Center was established over twenty years ago to introduce and promote the principles and ideas of sustainability in Israel at a time when no one was really talking about it (even the word "sustainability" in Hebrew was non-existent). Today we work with local initiatives to demonstrate that sustainable actions improve the well-being of everyone; we inspire decision-makers through transformative learning and capacity building, while also teaching hundreds of participants in short-term programs. But with all the progress and accomplishments and in light of the great urgency of climate change, we know that the road to sustainable living in Israel is still far away. In this lecture, I will share some more details about the work of the Heschel Center and provide you with insights into the environmental movement in Israel.

Speaker: Rony Erez is an environmental consultant, specializing in urban sustainability, who has worked both in Israel and in England. She received a master’s degree from Cambridge University in environmental, social, and development studies. Rony has worked at the Holon Municipality as a sustainability and environment project manager. After three years at the local sustainability department of the Heschel Center, in July 2020 she was appointed to the position of Co-Executive Director.
