Ride-Sharing: A Network Perspective

In the past two decades the field of Transportation Science has undergone a fundamental evolution with the growing emphasis of the Intelligent Transportation System. This process has been further accelerated with the spread of mobile phones and their pervasive sensing capabilities, as well as with the introduction of additional transportation oriented data corpora.

In recent years a main focal point that captures the attention of researchers in this field revolved around Ride Sharing, and its potential to improve traffic congestion as well as assist in

reducing CO2 emission and fuel consumption. In this talk I will present the data-driven relationship between various topological properties of the dynamic urban transportation network and the potential benefit of ridesharing, at different regions of the networks, and at different times.

This research was headed in collaboration with Dr. Erez Shmueli (TAU), and with a joint partnership with Telefonica Mobile.
